CodeSpa Virtual Reality Programming Retreat
Cecilia Weiss has been producing non-fiction and script television for over 15 years. She was one of the original producers of ABC's 2-time Emmy-winning series Extreme Makeover; Home Edition, and has gone on to produce numerous other network shows. She was first introduced to VR in early 2016 when she produced a 360° dance video. In doing so, she found a whole new world of storytelling. One that embraces a moment in time. VR/ 360° video gave the dance a depth, and a sense of vulnerability that can't be had when watching a standard video. VR awakened an excitement in her that she hadn't felt since her days as a classical dancer in NYC. She immediately recognized that VR could be an amazing format for the arts. Since then, she has gone on to create 360° videos with dancers from LA Ballet, USC and UCLA.
Recently she co-found OmniSpherica Productions, which is committed to creating high quality immersive VR experiences and stories that combine technology and live action content. She is currently working on an adaptation of a classic short story in VR that will also feature high-end spatialized, positionally aware sounds that will literally put the viewer inside the story.
Cecilia lives in Santa Monica, CA, with her husband Nick and their crazy rescue dog Daphne. When she is not developing new VR pieces, you'll find her trying to convert VR “newbies”, since she always packs a google cardboard wherever she goes.
